Presentation
Frederik Molenschot's focus is on the society and how people live together, move and consume. He stated that his inspiration started often with the traces that people left behind. He tried to conclude about people's habit and the use of their surroundings through studying these traces.
People lives are sensitive to the changes in the environment, the weather could affect one's emotion to an unexpected extend. One of the Molenschot's works pays attention to this trace of lives and creates new situation for people to perceive this cyclical change. He collaborated with Susanne Happle in a project, called "Solid Poetry Tiles". They developed a tile that would transform and emerge pattern on a rainy day, which turns the normally undesirable humid wall condition into beauty. He also creates wall-hanging/room-divider with multi-colored leaves made of felt, which can be combined by way of tab and slot to create a waterfall of mixed leaves, cascading down as a visual installation with practical uses.
His observation and analysis on the society also steers his design
for social concern. In the beginning of 2005, Molenschot started
to be involving in a project for children society. In the project
Molenschot work on the concept for a children's book and website
named the Peer's World. He has collected a lot of information
concerning young children in different parenthoods. The goal of
the project is to reach these children.
The standardized stereotypes that are available to children nowadays
would actually let these children to stigmatize their own lives
and situations. The project would result in a children book with
very diverse information for parents and children. The diverse scenarios
would help the children to recognize not only the dignity of their
lives and families, but also other peers that are sharing this diversification.
The book is partly autobiographical, still in progress. Molenschot
has also designed a tablecloth based on this project, which bringing
this idea into people's lives through another way.
