Workshop 2: Design of “Hong Kong Index”
The emergence of social software has changed the internet
as a possible tool for the democratization of (urban) policy. It
can be a way to activate the 'swarm intelligence' of citizens to
generate well-informed opinions on urban topics. But how to index
these individual opinions into a collective monitor? The workshop
will lead participants to discuss, analyse on ways to reinstate
citizenship as an active involvement into the appropriation of the
urban landscape, and to create our own “Hong Kong Index”.
For more details about "Rotterdam Index", please refer
to Dennis Kaspori's presentation.
Dennis Kaspori introduced his project the Rotterdam Index, which
is the reference of the workshop
Participants were divided in different groups and to gather
the news of the neighborhood in different ways. A group was assigned
to source the news from printed materials like newspaper or local
bulletin.

on the street
Another group searched the news on the internet
Kaspori then asked all the groups to discuss and choose three threads
of news from their result
The participants then voted for the chosen news according to
their impact on the future development of the neighborhood
The second task was to design a system or game to spread the
news to community
