Workshop Co-host
Rémi Leclerc
(Lecturer, School of Design, Hong Kong Polytechnic
University) Rémi Leclerc has provided creative talent to
industries in the spheres of entertainment and education since his
graduation from Les Ateliers - Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Création
Industrielle in Paris where he received a Masters Degree in Industrial
Design in 1992. He has lived in Asia, Africa, America and Europe.
His exposures to diverse cultures and his understanding of the representations
of these cultures invigorate his designs. His work is anchored in
his exploration of different notions of play and the conventions
of interactivity, and he draws on the characteristics of both traditional
and contemporary play objects to develop prospective children’s
environments, educational kits and products. In recent years, he
has explored extensively the union of design with social responsibility
and has worked collaboratively on projects with socially responsible
businesses and organisations in Paris, New York and Hong Kong.
Rémi’s designs have received awards in competitions in Hong Kong
and are part of the permanent collection of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs,
Palais du Louvre, Paris. He currently lives and works in Hong Kong
where he is a Lecturer in the School of Design at the Hong Kong
Polytechnic University, and led its Toy Design Lab. He is also the
Programme Leader, Associate in Design, and Coordinator of Associate
in Design Industrial & Product Design Stream. His research areas
include play culture, toy design, industrial design and consumerism.
